836 Missing Or Dead In Branhamite Mass Suicide - Shakahola Forest Massacre

Authorities in Kenya have exhumed fourteen more victims in the Shakahola Forest, a burial place for the members of Paul Mackenzie's Branhamite sect in Malindi.  One body was found dumped in the bushes, bringing the death toll to 226.

Fifteen more bodies have been recovered at Shakahola Forest in Kilifi County as the search for victims of a suspected starvation cult continues. According to Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha, out of the 15 bodies recovered on Wednesday, 14 were exhumed from graves while one was found dumped in the bushes. Testimonies of people interviewed by authorities confirm that Mackenzie was radicalized by Branham's end-of-days doctrine and that Mackenzie had intently focused upon doomsday as part of the strategy that led to suicides by starvation.  Mackenzie apparently marked off zones in the Shakahola Forest, giving areas of the forest biblical names such as Nazareth, Bethlehem, Judea, Jericho, Jerusalem, and Galilee. 

Cult members, brainwashed with this destructive theology, were convinced that these zones would become a "refuge" for the coming Day of Judgment.

According to testimonies, Mackenzie convinced the cult members that the Day of Judgment, in which the world would be destroyed, was approaching, and persuaded them to come to his compound in the Shakahola Forest, claiming it would serve as their refuge for the impending apocalypse. In the forest, he released the believers among areas he named after biblical places like Nazareth, Bethlehem, Judea, Jericho, Jerusalem and Galilee.[2]
