On Tuesday, May 2, Mackenzie was released by the Malindi court after the magistrate declined a request by the prosecution to hold him for 90 days. However, moments later, the police rearrested him ahead of terrorism charges at Shanzu High Court.[2]

Meanwhile, detectives in the Shakahola Massacre case identified yet another forest that may contain more victims.  Mackenzie transferred some of the following to the Kakuyuni forest days after his release from prison in March, transporting members by a transport truck.

Cult members brainwashed by the cult doctrine are afraid to reveal information to investigators. Though more than 100 bodies have been discovered in the mass suicide-by-starvation sect, rescued victims of the cult continue to absolve Mackenzie of any blame.[3]

The detectives disclosed that investigations revealed that a lorry hired by Paul Mackenzie moved several adherents from the expansive Shakahola forest. According to the investigators, the controversial preacher moved the followers to Kakuyuni forest days after he was released on KSh 10,000 bail in March
