Adam Short is a former member of the New Apostolic Reformation world whose adult life was deeply shaped by NAR-adjacent churches, Metro Christian Fellowship, IHOPKC, and Bethel. He became a Christian in 1998, later lived in Kansas City in the early 2000s, participated in Metro Christian Fellowship circles, and spent time around IHOPKC's prayer room and worship culture. After mission-field experience, he moved to Redding in 2007, completed all three years of Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, and also served part-time on staff at Bethel. Adam reflects on leaving church life with his wife around 2011, beginning a long process of deconstruction, therapy, and healing from spiritual abuse. He now speaks from the perspective of someone trying to understand what should be rejected, what can be rebuilt, and how survivors can process the harm caused by charismatic urgency, financial manipulation, idolized leaders, and systems that protected abusive power.
