John McKinnon was raised in a Baptist church in his local community and came to a personal commitment to Christ at the age of 18, responding to the call to repent and believe the gospel. Choosing not to immediately align with a specific denomination, he spent his early college years exploring various Christian traditions and movements.

During this time, he encountered the teachings associated with William Branham. Initially cautious about the elevation of a single individual to a position of spiritual authority, John undertook a thorough personal investigation. He listened extensively to sermon recordings, studied the message's doctrinal claims, examined reported gifts and prophecies, read available books and articles, and attended a message church. He also sought to evaluate these teachings in light of Scripture.

At that stage in his Christian life, lacking both depth of biblical training and access to critical resources, he found himself unable to adequately assess the claims being made. Within two years of his conversion, he embraced the message and remained a committed adherent for the next 33 years.

Over time, however, John encountered documented evidence and research challenging the historical and theological claims surrounding William Branham. After carefully examining this information, he concluded that remaining in the movement was incompatible with a commitment to biblical truth. In February 2019, he made the decision to leave, choosing what he believed to be faithfulness to Christ and Scripture despite significant personal cost.

Since that time, John has dedicated himself to producing podcasts and written materials aimed at helping others. His work is intended to support those who have left the message, those in the process of leaving, and those still within it who are seeking to evaluate its claims in light of Scripture.
