During the early part of William Branham's ministry as a Pentecostal assistant pastor at Roy E. Davis' Pentecostal Baptist Church and as a preacher at the Billie Branham Pentecostal Tabernacle Jeffersonville, IN was well known for its "quick marriages". Men and women from surrounding states and counties would travel to the casino town of Jeffersonville for a temporary marriage, perform sexual activities, and then divorce upon returning home. The problem was so significant that it reached the Indiana legislature, and rules were created to slow the process of marriage. It was during this time that William Branham performed his brother Jesse's marriage after divorce.
